NECKAR KÄPT’N

The Neckar Captain Stuttgart

Experience Stuttgart's surroundings from a different perspective

As a tributary of the Rhine, the Neckar stretches over 367 kilometres mainly across Baden-Württemberg and is thus naturally also a cultural component of the state capital Stuttgart! The Neckar is navigable from Plochingen, not far from Stuttgart, all the way to Mannheim - and offers a perspective from the water on the neighbouring cities that you rarely get otherwise. If you want to experience this view of Stuttgart's surroundings, the NeckarKäpt'n is your suitable port of call. Its fleet offers adventure and scheduled cruises from Esslingen to Kirchheim and lets you perceive the surroundings as they have not yet been viewed even by many local residents.

Piers and boarding points

The main landing stage of the 'Neckar Captain', as it is called in English-speaking countries, is located directly at the Wilhelma zoological-botanical gardens - less than 20 minutes by public transport from our Hotel Wartburg! Other landing stages on your boat trip are
Upstream Downstream Due to the high water dams, barrier-free access to the ship is only possible in Ludwigsburg-Hoheneck. Unfortunately, there are some steps to climb for access to most of the ships and the staff of the Neckar Kapitän cannot carry wheelchair users over the stairs for insurance reasons. Therefore, the team asks for sufficient supporting hands if needed.

Our excursion tips along the Neckar

Not only can you get to know Stuttgart on the Neckar Käpt'n, but you can also visit a variety of cultural attractions along the Neckar at the landing stages, such as the world-famous Marbach Literature Museums, or enjoy the breathtaking view of the regional vineyards. Especially in autumn, the eyes can hardly get enough of the magnificently varying hues, which, due to the different grape varieties, make the vineyard look like an autumnal colour palette.
This map will give you a brief insight into the route and mooring points with the nearby excursion options:
